Ello,

I cant help but feel I've led a sheltered life when it comes to pc games; so I'm looking for some inspiration. Can anyone recommend some great ones?

I've been looking at the most recent STALKER title, would this be a good place to start?

Cheers!

STALKER is certainly a series to try out!

Some other good PC games are the likes of Arma II, Total war games, civilization games, Counterstrike? etc.

I have played all the Stalker games and the first one is the best by far.

Here are a few games that I have enjoyed recently

Half-Life 2
Deus Ex HR
Dead Island
Crysis 1
Just Cause 2
GTA IV
Mass Effect Series
Dead Space I & II
Bio Shock

:)

Need a bit more guidance about what sort of genres you like, and what your background in gaming is.

Something like STALKER may be a big step if you are used to standard console fare that holds your hand throughout, it is not the most accessible game in the world due to the fairly open-ended beginning. I'm primarily a PC gamer (99.9% of my gaming in the past 15 years has been on PC) and I gave up after a few hours. By all means try it as you should be able to pick it up cheap in the sales (as a rough guide you should be looking to pay under a fiver for the latest in the series) but if it isn't to your tastes then don't be put off.

Thanks guys.

@Hang: I'm used to the generic big sellers e.g. GTA, CoD, AOE etc. Most of my gaming has been on the 360, but I've played the likes of CS. I'm looking for pretty much anything at the minute, but something with a good story would be nice. Not sure about a specific genre.

Skyrim looks appealing but could be a huge time sink? :P

Max Payne 3 or The Walking Dead

Try the first Deus Ex. The graphics are dated, but the story and game play / replay value is superb. One I think you should at least try.

Fear 1 - brilliant.

Minecraft looks like an interesting game.

It was a beta for a couple of years then got released late last year, although I only found out about it now. Saw some Youtube videos of it and it looks like a cross between The Sims and Repton with the crafting element from World of Warcraft. Once you've gathered up materials for smelting, you build your base (which keeps your inventory) which is where the Sims element comes in, then the Repton element kicks in as you dig deep into the earth collecting diamonds and killing monsters. The graphics are quirky - everything made to look like lego.

Although it ends with -craft, Mincraft isn't a Blizzard game :-)
