Got Virgin 100MB Cable Internet a month or so ago and getting only around 35MB over wireless N in my house so seems a bit of a waste.

Running a wired connection is out of the question due to wooden floors and marital harmony so thinking about homeplugs instead so..

1) What's the best ones out there - not too price concerned

2) What sort of speed do people normally see on average, realise lots of other factors involved here etc

ta !

I've just ordered a pair of these:

Solwise NET-PL-1000M

Gigabit rated homeplugs. My last solwise were spot on and I highly rate them as a brand. They use the same media xtreme chips as the likes of belkin etc yet these are only £65 a pair on their website.

Can't comment on speed yet.

A lot is governed by the wiring in your house etc.

New wiring is a big advantage and also if both plugs are on the same ring main etc helps with speed.

Thanks for that, will have a look at them, are they generally considered to be the best out there ? Is Gigabit rated the highest they go ?

When I was looking to buy some home plugs (2 months ago) I found reports that the chipsets used in the gigabit ones weren't all that good. They were more prone to interference and their error checking / retransmission was poor. This meant that they'd perform worse than a set of say 200mpbs.

I have some TP Link 200mbps homeplugs which share my ~40mbit/s connection. On one end I have a 100mbit Netgear switch, and the router on the other. I have a linux box directly connected to the router and one directly connected to the switch. I did a speed test from one linux box to the other and it record 94mbit - which I suspect is the 100mbit switch, router or port imposing that limit.

I've come across that too. In fairness I emailed solwise and they give you 7 days grace to return etc if you don't like or it doesn't work in your setup. If they don't work well will just send them backa nd get the 200mbps ones. I really rate solwise. In fact turnign into a solwise fanboi!
