So last winter i suffered quite a bit from having blooming freezing feet on every ride and i don't really want to repeat that this year.

I used a pair of Planet X 365 overshoes last year and although being waterproof, didn't really do any good at keeping the cold out ( even with castelli toe thingies over the top :D )

I'm not too keen on the pro cyclist / team kit look and lean more towards the funky designs / classic look (think maap/rapha). Obviously the Rapha deep winter overshoes seem perfect but the price is redonk. Was hoping to spend £30ish.

Answers on a postcard pls :D

I have used several over the years
P/x neoprene - bulky, warm but get even heavier in the rain.
Velotoze - waterproof, aero but very sweaty and a pain to get on.
Shimano Tarmac - a good compromise, not as snug as the velotoze but decent waterproofing, not sweaty and easy to get on.

For summer I buy cheapo ones from Ebay, Lycra that just keep the dust and grime off your shoes on so-so days.

If I had one pair - it would be the Shimano tarmac.

After trying many overshoes and toe covers, my opinion is that your options are Warm and Wet, or hot and slight-less-wet.

Even the most waterproof of overshoes will get flooded after an hour or two of downpour.

Personally I'd recommend the dhb toe covers - they won't keep you dry, but they'll keep your toes warm and they cost peanuts.

Tbh velotoze are quite amazing they don't let water out that's for sure.

I have these. Depends how regularly you plan to take them on/off and also ride in the rain with them. With a spare set of shoes, so you don't have to remove them, (lets be honest they're hidden underneath anyway so don't need to be your finest pair), they'll probably last a fair while.

I wore mine yesterday in 18 degrees & rainy right through to 22 degrees and sunny. Feet didn't cook and stayed bone dry.

They are the equivalent of latex gloves though so not very durable but they're pretty cheap to replace.

Ballache to put on & off though :o

WHAT. Are you mental! Its the summer just get wet feet! Think my feet would have fallen off thru dehydration if j wore them yesterday for anything but my tt!

Northwave boots win every time.

I wear two pairs of socks, my Bonts and assos overshoes and they aren't as warm as the northwave boots. They just feel heavy as obviously they are so swapping back & forward between shoes feels odd so I like to stick to riding the same ones. Middle of winter I'd go for the boots every time.

Velotoze lasted about 5 rides for me then ripped. Rubbish, not thick enough rubber.

Lawd. It was 18 degrees, not 38

If a pair of latex over shoes dehydrates you then you've probably got bigger issues. Rode with wet feet for a week in Germany in June. No thanks. :p

I'm going to buy some northwave boots for this winter. If I'm going to stand a chance of commuting through the winter, or as much of it as isn't horribly icy, then I'll need them. A guy I used to work with had a pair and said they were brilliant.

NOT Castelli - they don't last. I'll be getting some proper winter boot type things for winter. Any recommendations?
Ideally ones with both 2 and 3 hole cleat options... I love look keos if it's just cold and dryish, but would go to SPDs if it's a bit more orrible, and might be walking more.
