Spec me some parking sensors!

After almost killing a colleague in the car park today, I have decided that I need to do something about my parking (470cm length doesn't help!) and I thought about parking sensors.

However: due to the car's value and my reluctance to invest a great deal of money, I have some special requirements:

- sensors must not be for drilling into the bumper (stick-on preferred)
- no cables from sensors to display/audio unit
- visual display for mirror would be nice
- don't want to connect cable to gearbox/do other complicated DIY

Are there any sensors like that out there? I came across the following, but I don't know if they require drilling or not:

Many thx in advance :)

Those need drilling.

You'll very hard pushed to find a wireless system on reversing sensors.

At the risk of sounding condesending. Why not invest on improving your driving skills? Ask a friend to coach/observe you a bit, or look into IAM/ROSPA courses, which'll help your all round driving and observation.

I must admit trying to park the Octavia has been a PITA coming from my 306. There is naff all rear visibility, and half of that is blocked by the spoiler :p

If I'm not sure I just jump out and have a look, yeah I look a bit of a divvy (only had to do it once so far) but give it a dozen or so more reverse parks and it'll be second nature.

Adjusting your mirrors so that you can just see the rear bumper on the inside edge of the mirror helps no end too.

Indeed lot cheaper to practise than to get some silly parking sensors. You will get there it will just take time and generally improve your awareness abilities.

I just do the get out and have a look if i'm not sure how much space there is behind me. Rather look like a pillock for doing that, than looking even more like a pillock for crashing into something.

It has nothing to do with driving skills, simple fact of the matter is the Cougar has rubbish rear visibility, I can't see the last metre of the car due to the hatchback being above my line of sight, and the seat is already very high!

Getting out of the car is too inconvenient, so I'd rather have the sensors :p

With respect mate, the above are closely linked, that you don't take a look if you know your visibility is restricted speaks volumes about your driving skill! imo.

I've Never required reversing sensors in my artic, it works wonders to have a good idea of your surroundings prior to your reversing even if you have to inconvenience yourself to the point of getting out & taking a look!. ;)

I have rear parking sensors on my focus and I've NEVER hit so many things in my life.

You just get complacent. I'd avoid, I certainly won't spec them again.

I found parking sensors handy on the car's I've hired with them, if you feel they 'assist' you and don't use them as blind indicators of obstructions I don't see the problem..

They seem to work well for me getting out of spaces where I've been boxed in, and turned a probable 'safe' 10 attempts of getting out into 3 or 4..

A lovely story, well done and good on you..
