Hi all,

Recently inherited some parts from a friend but it seems there's a problem with the motherboard. It's allowing power to the fans etc even when computer is off.

So, in order to replace it I also need a few other parts as the mobo is fairly old.

Things I need.

A mobo that will support lga775 core 2 duo.
A gpu that can support playing films at 1080 via hdmi (low profile as its in a slimline case)
RAM. Anything to suit new mobo.

I have a hard drive and 600w modular psu. Would this psu be over kill ? Maybe suggest a new one ?

Budget wise if like to keep it as low as poss.

PC will be used primarily for running xbmc playing films from a NAS.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Power Supply: 1 x standard PS2(ATX), depth limit = 140mm

You will need to check your Psu is no bigger than 140mm in depth, otherwise it wont fit.

This is the only 775 mobo OCUK has in stock, so you may have to source one elsewhere or get second hand. Also check mobo supports your Cpu.
If you stick with a 775 mobo, you will also need to get the ram(DDR2) secondhand, as it is expensive.
If the HTPC is just for movie playback, it may be cheaper to just get a Pentium(1155) Cpu and 1155 H61 or B75 mobo.

I did see that motherboard, the motherboard states it accepts core 2 duo 775 so that should be fine ? also, that motherboard also accepts ddr3.

The Trinity onboard Gpu benefits from faster ram. The Cpu(K) and Gpu can be OC`ed, so you could play some games at low settings on the TV, for a few extra quid.

would you say this would be a tipping point vs an intel set up ?

as they are both similar in price, being able to play low end games would be a bonus
