Another spec me some RAM thread!

I have the following motherboard:

Epox 9NPA+ running a AMD Opteron 146
2 x 512 DDR (2700/3300 - I think)

When I first upgraded my system to the above, I attempted to overclock the CPU, but didn't get anywhere due to the mismatched memory (apparently).

Now I think it's time to get some more RAM, so I need some advice from some experts on what exactly I need. Does the new DDR2 RAM need to be paired up like the SIMM/DIMM back in the old days? AS I notice everthing seems to be sold in pairs of 1gig.

Thanks for the advice in advance!

AMD had to move to socket AM2 to provide support for DDR2.

Have you tried running the memory on a divider whilst overclocking?

Running the memory slower than the fsb is fine with AMD systems.

Too be honest, i'm a complete n00b when it comes to overclocking. But when I first played around with it back in 2005, I remember the PC kept hanging up after the tweaks - after looking around in forums, it seems it's a symptom when i'm using crap generic, unmatched RAM :(

Not even sure what a Divider is! Think i'll just get some DDR chips, or wait til my next upgrade and change mobo and RAM completely...
