Been experimenting with Reds but most of the stuff I've tried has been quite earthy or full bodied.

I used to love family homebrew red wine although it was a bit sweet. Can anyone recommend something in between... Nice and fruity, and not too heavy?

Happy to budget for up to £15 a bottle.

Cheers!

I would have recommended a Chateaux Neuf du Pape, but it may be a bit heavy for you're criteria. It is wonderfully fruity though.

if you want something tasty and not too heavy, try a nice reserva rioja based wine. Goes down easily. For 15 quid you could get a 2001 i think which is rather lovely imho.

Cheers guys..

I've already tried a few Chateau Neuf Du Pape Reds and while nice, I found them a bit heavy and slightly earthy. Maybe a bit too young (what should I look at?)

Had a few young Riojas (only generic el cheapo vino) and wasn't that impressed but I'll give the 2001 reserva a try :)

Its said that a good CNP is aged 8 years, so as close to 2000 as you can get for your budget would make it a good bet :)

sorry guys about the wine thing I got sidetracked with one of the busiest weeks in my working history (you've got to love the launch of a new product).

I will post an update and request for a poll and drive that forward.

Rioja can be like drinking berry juice if it's younger. Gran Reserva would probably be too heavy. £15 will get you a top notch old Rioja Gran Reserva, £7-12 should get you a very good Reserva.

Chilling stuff removes its taste. That's why you serve crappy beers at low temperatures.

And Mateus is rank :p

eheheh
no mate, this wine must be cold before you drink it
it´s not a "normal" red wine,it´s one of a kind

if you drink it at ambient temp,it´s exactly same thing like to drink coca -cola or champagne at that temp - no way:eek:

Now sit on the street corners and drink up!

I've just polished off a bottle of Hardy's Nottage Hill 2005 Cabernet Shiraz which is wonderfully fruity and not too heavy..a great red for £6.99 at Tesco. I've enjoyed most the Hardy's reds actually.

Casillero Del Diablo's (Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) are very nice. Errazuriz Max Reserva also from Chile. As well as Ravenwood from California, a very full bodied wine that goes really well with peppery or spicier red meats. Hope you enjoy your new found taste of red wines mate :)

Cheers guys, I'll get ordering (apart from the Lambrini and Rosé, I don't want to grow breasts and start obsessing over cute animals) :D

eheheheh
