Well, I've just purchased 'Tonight, Tonight' (yes I know I'm about 5 years too late) and really like it. So, what Smashing Pumpkin songs would you recommend?

galapagos
1979
mayonaise
disarm
today
bullet with butterfly wings
zero
ava adore
perfect
thirty-three

that should tide you over for the time being - or you could just buy the greatest hits album or something.

Just get the entirity of Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie and the Infinate Sadness and Gish. They're all classics from start to finish.

In fact, the entire back catalogue is pretty epic. Tails off a little towards Machina's era, but still pretty damn impressive.

For induvidual songs though:

Soma
1979
The Aeroplane Flies High
Stand Inside Your Love

This list feels endless for classic pumpkins songs though.

One of my favourite bands; as well as the above suggestions you could also get the greatest hits video, there are some good vids in there that I never tire of watching, and the commentary is well worth listening to.
Anyone know when the new album is due ?

Gish!!!!!!!

Come on.... absolute belter of an album
Yep... a damn good debut, even tho Siamese Dream is thier best one IMO.

Mellon collie is also good, but I wasn't really too keen on the stuff they did after that tbh.

Cheers for all the replies but I have to say I'm not rich enough at the moment to purchase all these albums recommended although I did buy a few of the songs which 00bob00 suggested and I'm really liking mayonaise and 1970.

Cheers :)

Try and get hold of Machina II, since its free - basically its a load of tracks (~30) that had been recorded that Billy Corgan decided to release free of charge on his website as mp3 downloads when the Pumpkins split from their record company. Not their best work for sure (otherwise it'd have been release properly) but still some decent songs - Glass, Cash Car Star, Dross, Satur9, Slow Dawn....

Wow, really im 30 years old now but Smashing pumpkins are still my favouritist band ever.

Saw them live many times.

Didnt get into them until their 2nd big albumn but they truley are/where superb.
All their solo project stuff is pretty nice too.

What else can i say....

So many iconic songs for my generation im amazed they were never really much huger than they were.

I could listen to every album back to back and not forward one track.
Its great to watch them turn from their long haircut day roots all the way through to bizzare electronic orchestral stuff, which is just as good.

Pick up Rotten Apples, its got most of their best tracks on there.

My all-time favourites are Cherub Rock, BWBW, Disarm, 1979, Stand Inside Your Love and ZERO!

yeh was at wembley for one of their last gigs before they split....phenomenal band.

also check out Zwan, only one album and really very good stuff.
