Well thats it. I've booked my flights and they are non refundable so I'm definately going.

I'm flying to Melbourne to meet the girlfriend and I'll be out there for just under 6 weeks. I intend to get a hire car for at least half of it.

What stuff is unmissable? Can't be bothered with Perth, wont be going to Alice Springs/Darwin but anything else certainly seems dooable!

Anyone been? Spec me places to go!

This thread is 25% for bragging and 75% for genuine info :p

what airline did you choose in the end?

it's a shame you're not going out alice springs way, as uluru really is worth going to
get yourself out to cairns, or port douglas if you can, and go scuba diving in the great barrier reef. it's fantastic
sydney's worth a visit too

avoid canberra, there's **** all there.

fonzee has a point, if you've flown half way around the world, you might as well pop over to NZ for a bit, another country to cross off :p

This is what I did when I was there about 8 years ago (so was 14 :p) and loved -

Scuba diving in Cairns

Theme parks on the gold coast
Also saw a show while I was there called the Hidden Palace at the Conrad Jupiter which was simply amazing.

Since then, I found out that the company I went bungee with in Bali have a branch in cairns, so highly recommend that as well :)

What I would avoid - the hot balloon ride in cairns. sounds like fun, but is very boring :p

I'm sure I heard theres an Oxo tower down under!

I've never been so to boost your ego I am jealous! When you flying out? Take lots of pictures!

If you're in Melbourne, the Dandenongs are unmissable (I suggest you visit the little hilltop towns like Sassafras and Olinda). Drive to Adelaide along the Great Ocean Road for bonus lulz.

Prince Phillip Island is also recommended, particularly for its "parade of penguins" (I've been there and watched the little blighters; it's quite magical). While you're in the neighbourhood, you could do worse than to nip across Bass Strait to Tasmania.

I took the missus back home to Australia for a few weeks in in 2006; photos available here. Might give you a few ideas.

:)

Flying out on the 22nd of June with Malaysia Airlines :) Going to spend a week or so chilling in Melbourne, hire a car and go somewhere, maybe Sydney, then I dunno from there, thats where you guys come in :p

sod Oz, pop over to NZ, thats where its at :D

this post is 0% useful :p

Unless you have money falling out your arse, newzealand is pretty crap. At least in oz you can go to the beach, look at lots of hot girls and chillout.

In NZ you get board of seeing mountains, lakes and sheep after a few days anyway

Melbourne is a great city, as is Sydney. Byron bay is awesome for chilling out, airlie beach too and surfers paradise. Then theres fraiser island and whitsundays, the reef, 1770...

Ohh im interested in this thread as i am currently planning my trip to australia, hopefully going to go this year :)

I was thinking of going to perth, then flying to melborne/sydney!
If you don't mind me asking how much did you get your tickets for? Mine seem to be coming out around £800ish return

reet then, drive up the east coast, names that jump out for my fav. places (if your in a car)

sydney-- hardcore clubs :D:D:D

coffs harbour, some of the best camping places in the world i swear lol, wake up 15 metres from a beach. aweesome surfing there too. also really quiet tourist wise.

magnetic island (walk accros sit and find al lthe wild koala's. aweosme

um brisbane (go up to kangaroo point at night and youll see what i mean.(most livable city in the world i SWEAR))

fraiser isaland, 4X4 over what is basically a giant sand dune island. lol. awesome.

cairns (dont get trapped here, no you cant swim in the sea cos of the salt croc's) but you can drink... ALOTand at pj o'brians the girls behind the bar 'HAVE' to wear schoolgirl outfits after 6pm. which i think is brilliant. GF thought it was unfair but blah.

whitsunday islands. 3 days and 2 nights on a huge boat sailing round some of the best beach's. awesome.

um if your flying into melbourne then you HAVE to do the great ocean road. awesome.
lol
im sooo jealous grrrr.
oh dunno if youve bin before but it'll open your eyes to how small england / travelliing anywhere is lol. its HUUUUUUUUUUGE, like. gutting how big it is. lol

make sure you stop over in KL. it's really nice, the food is fantastic and i've been wanting to go back since the twin towers didn't exist when i went :(

Great Ocean Road sounds totally awesome. Can I sell it to the GF as being anything other than a road? Cos 'We are going up this amazing road' might not go down well :D
