My dad has suggested he would like a bottle of tequila for Christmas. I know absolutely nothing about tequila so I need some suggestions.

- Must be white/blanco
- Must be able to order online/deliver (I don't live in the UK so won't be able to go to a shop and buy it)
- Budget ~£40

Thanks!

I had wanted an introduction to tequila neat for sipping ... afraid it was a reposado, brand was Cabrito
purchased from Amathus Drinks, fresh pepper / vanillery taste, not burning on the palate ~£30 all-in .
bought on the basis of online reviews .. but it delivered

I hate tequila, but weirdly LOVE Patron XO, probs because the coffee hides the tequila flavour :D

This is why I mention anejo tequila. It's far more of a sipping drink than a whack-it-down-the-throat followed by salt and lime affair. It's more like a malt whisky.

Thanks all. Sorry for the silence, I didn't get any notifications of any replies.

It sounds like the choices are:
Don Julio
Patron
Cabrito Blanco
El Rayo Plata

If you're in the states, Patron would be a good shout. I love their anejo stuff but guessing that's not allowed.
I'm in the US and my parents are in the UK which is why I have to mail order it, I should have explained that a bit better.

He's said that he wants a blanco/white so that rules out anejo stuff sadly.

It looks like they make a blanco tequila so I'll look into that.

In fact, the Don Julio 70 is what you want. It's outstanding. But a bit over budget.

I've been trying to get some for a while, so damn this thread now I've bought some :D
Ooops sorry :D

My Don Julio 70 arrived :D

I can't believe you spent that much on a bottle of Tequila. I'm not saying it won't be good though. The Don Julio I tried was about a £40 bottle, was a brown coloured bottle.

As someone who had only ever had cheap salt and lemon stuff before, I wasn't really all that interested in it until a mate eventually convinced me to try it and my god, it was like drinking the nectar of the agave. Needless to say I was very impressed.

I'm more of a bourbon guy though, you can get a good bottle of Kentucky Straight for £20-£25

I'm sure randomshenans applies the same logic, as he just discussed in wine thread , vivino equivalent www.tequilamatchmaker.com etc has equally good reviews/value for some £40 bottles, or the cheaper cabrito I suggested ... but guess the Julio 70 is to his palate or was a speculative purchase. ?

coincidentally the tv just ref'd george clooneys (ex) brand ~£40 ... reasonable amazon comments and would add some humour as an xmas present

I'm not an nespresso person ....

The absolute best 'bang for buck' tequila is Olmeca Altos.

The plata is great, but the anejo is exceptional. The reposado makes a superb paloma.
