Afternoon lads.

I need some help here.

With the cold weather really closing in now and the fact I spend 80% of my day outside, I have decided it'd be a good idea to invest in a good set of thermals. Now usually I'd pop to M&S or a similar retail store and buy the first pair I see, but last year I found these just dont do the job.

I am after some advice and a recommendation on a good, quality set of thermals, that will keep me warm in damp, windy, cold conditions. I am fed up of freezing my rear end off.

Thanks in advance.

I either have pringle thermals or wear under amour (or nike/adidas equivalent) sports stuff if I need kept warm.

Just invested in a pair of Kangaroo Poo from m&mdirect. Very nice.

I see your in W. Wales. Come over and you can try them on :p

I spend all day outside near Inverness and the Helly Hansen Lifa 'Warm' I use haven't let me down yet in 2 years. The other Lifa top, the lifa 'Dry' is just a close fitting top with no thermal layer so avoid that one.

Helly Hanson? Pringle? What's with the high-fashion brand recommendations? Surely something from North Face or Rab which is dedicated to keeping you warm would be better.

I have some North Face capris that I run and cycle in that make ideal thermals. Rab, Icebreaker and many other outdoor brands do thermal base layers that will be thinner, more flexible and warmer than non-dedicated kit. Have a look in running and outdoorsy type shops.

.

But North Face IS a high-fashion brand! :p

I'm not overly bothered by brand, getting the correct size for your body as well as material composition is much more important.

When I go all night Sea fishing for Cod in the Winter I always wear modified women's tights under my gear, think about where to cut some holes and you can make a 2-Piece Long John type thing out of two pairs, you forget they're on once the initial discomfort wears off, they are cheap as chips and toasty as ****! Better than any £££ Hi-Tech stuff I've ever used.
