Right, I can't handle reading much more on my screen. I think I need some structured hard copy books to scrawl notes in and make to read easier.

Can anyone recommend some good up to date web design/html/css books please?

Thanks!

I can recommend two. The principles of Beautiful Web Design by Jason Beird (a sitepoint book) is highly regarded as is Don't Make Me Think by Steve Krug. Hope that helps with a couple of specifics.

Thanks guys, I ordered:
The Principles of Beautiful Web Design 2nd Edition
CSS: The Missing Manual (Missing Manuals) (an O Reilly one)

to get me started :)

That book sounds pretty sweet, interesting about them giving Amazon the finger. Sounds like one to check out once I get these basics under my belt :)

Check out the HEAD FIRST books as well, different way of teaching people and they are really good for getting a grasp of things.

As well as the ORA books, I do like the CSS Zen Garden book (for different reasons). Don't know what the state of the art is in UX design anymore.
