Spec me something like this

This is my first post on Overclockers, a good friend directed me here saying folk were really helpful.

I'm after a games machine and can spend in the region of 1-1.2k. Direct X 10 compatible graphics card and at least 2 gig of ram, with room to improve.

I've seen this set-up on [No Competitors Please] which i thought looked ok. But then i'm sure anything bought ready made is probably a rip off.

Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6600 Processor
(2.40GHz ,4MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz)
Mainboard-nForce 680i SLI
2048MB DDR2 Memory
500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
320MB nVIDIA 8800GTS Graphics
22" Widescreen LCD Display (DVI, MM, 5ms)
Sony18x Super Format DVD Writer
Creative's SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
T6100 5.1 Speakers + Subwoofer
6 USB, 2x Firewire, GB LAN

What do you chaps think?

And thanks in advance.

I think you will probably struggle to find a spec that is going to be under the 1K, will you need a case also? That 8800 would be better being 640MB+ with a 22" TFT!

Welcome to the forums, could you remove the name of the competitor please as it is against the rules given in the FAQ. :)

If that system is at the lower end of the budget then it isn't too badly priced from a rough totting up of the individual parts in my head (the online store isn't playing nicely at the moment for me). However some of the parts might be slightly lower quality due to corner cutting - normally the PSU is one of the primary areas for this to happen which can harm upgrade potential.

I think if you want that system with decent bits in it would look like this and cost you this much.

I'm sure I could spec you a sub 1k sys of that spec but with crap in, (i'm talking matrox HDD and a lower end Asrock mobo). unless your really into sound quality i wouldn't waste money on one of those sound cards. Sorry if I sound aggressive but I do get annoyed with some companys putting rubbish in there machines.

Specced for a friend yesterday:
