So... following on from my crash thread, I reckon the focus is going to be written off, and since I only get 48hrs of hire care after I get the payout, I need to know what I'm getting by then, so... suggestions for a new car please!

I'm mainly going to be using it to get to work, which is a ~16 mile trip each way, mostly along the motorway.

Ideally I want something a little more fun and interesting than a diesel focus, but it needs to be reasonably practical at the same time, so no 2 seaters unfortunately.

For now I've been looking at Mitsubishi Galants/Legnums (V6-24 or VR-4) estates, just wondered if there's anything along the same lines which I should consider?

Cheers guys =)

e36 325i 4 door / touring (estate) your budget may find a good one, but it will be old by definition and I say may as at that budget regardless of whatever "interesting" car it is, you will find many dogs.

Although a Mondeo V6 would probably be a more sane option.

I mention 6 pot engined cars as you do yourself in your OP. :)

Tbh at this budget its VERY hit & miss....

What do you need to know about the Galant/Legnum, either V6-24 or VR-4?

Well, hell, you've been in my one for a 400 mile round trip - if you wanted to take it out for a spin yourself then just yell :)

Haha, I don't live in Bath anymore, otherwise I would jump at the chance.

It's definitely number 1 on the list, but there are none for sale on Club VR-4 within my budget, except for J.A.P's, and he reckons he's sold it already =(

If you know of anyone who's got one going for £1-1.5k then send them my way =P

Day to day either it's just like your old Galant GLS, but you've got oodles of power there when you want it.

When I was towing you up the hill out of Bath, I hardly noticed you were at the end of a solid bar, there's enough power there even for that :)

I'll keep an eye out, but I don't know of anything at the moment.

Much as I would love something like a Supra or FTO, practicality stands in the way =(

Practically? A mk 3 supra will comfortably sit 4 people has had a reasonably sized hatchbacked boot which fits plenty (even with the stupid spare wheel "hump".

My money would obviously go on a soarer at that price point if something like a vr4 gallant takes your fancy. If you go for a v8 you won't get a better spec car for the money and very few cars will match a turbo performance wise. auto only though for anywhere owe to your budet

I now have an official stance that 2 door Coupes are hugely irritating and if you don't expressly want one, then you are best off with a saloon.

I don't know the exact dimensions of the MK3 supra but if they are anything like the MK4 then they dont have too much space.

Enough but not enough for the size of the vehicle. (If that makes sense)
