Upgrade time again for me, had enuff of AMD so want an Intel system..

REQUIREMENTS:-

Framerate!

Motherboard Must Haves
5+ SATA connectors
1-2 EIDE for DVD Rewriters
Ability to take 4-8gb later

CPU Requirements
Performance per£
Under £250 ideally
No need for O'cing but might later

GFX Card requirements
Fast Gaming, probably gonna be 8800 GTX 768mb But so many to choose from

Ram
2gb

Cooler
Quite and efficient

So far i am thinking along the lines of:-

BFG GeForce 8800 Ultra OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Gigabyte GA_X38_DQ6 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 "LGA775 Conroe" 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-9200 1150MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2

Will that get me a consistently good frame rate on a WoW 25 man raid in SSC?

You are spending way over the odds for what is necessary or at the very least it isn't a particularly cost effective way of doing things. For the money you spend on the E6850 I'd either go with the Q6600 for ~£7 more or get the E6750 for ~£50 less and do the minor overclocking required yourself.

The Ram cost about £150 and unless you have phase or something the CPU will probably not keep up with the speeds it is capable of plus you can't use 8gb since they are 1gb sticks. Just buy something like the OCZ PC6400 4gb straight off which costs about the same but is 2x2gb and more than sufficient for any overclocking you are likely to do.

Just buy a decently priced 8800GTX instead of the needless premium for the ultra or as a half-way solution the BFG GTX OC2 on This Week Only which has the core clocked faster than most of the ultras and the Ram speed isn't that far behind.

"" everything semi-pro said, plus go for P35 motherboard like the abit IP35 Pro, as they are more of a known quantity. Or be a guinea pig for X38, but you have to tell us what it's like :D

Ok, I should explain, I like to get some degree of future proofing, so that usually involves paying a premium..

My curent system is FX60, 2gb Corsair Xtreme, Radeon 1900XT, and i find it nasty and laggy @1280x1024 on vista 64 bit... which is highly annoying!

Processor sounds like a sound choice, as does the ram, more probably better than extreme memory..

Wouldnt touch an Abit/Asus mobo with a bargepole ever again hehe Gigabyte or DFI are the only ones I would use now..

Should have said that earlier i guess

GB P35 DS4 will do then I think. Generally speaking if you spend half as much twice as often you'll find you get better returns in terms of keeping up with the latest games, than a massive blowout on the most powerful gear at the time, which normally has a disproportionately high premium attached to it (because it's the fastest).
