Thinking of going MATX.

Required:

Conroe
2 gig ram
super fast single hdd
best gfx that will fit (preference is for high high end)
fast and quiet dvdrw

quality case that will fit all the above

machine going to be used for casual gaming and web browsing.
 
If you MUST order now...

Conroe XE E6800
Asus P5B-VM
2GB Corsair
X1950XT-X
Seasonic M12 600W Modular
74GB Raptor

But you'll have to run that Conroe XE at stock until decent overclocking boards arrive, when they will is anybody's guess.
 
i was intending at running at stock speeds for this rig.

which type of ram exactly? lots of different types of DDR2 Corsair

what better MATX Conroe boards are on the horizon?

the X-1950XT-X is inferior to the Geforce 7950 GX2 is it not?

is enermax not a better psu than seasonic?

and finally whats the diff between the 74g raptor and the 150gb raptor x?

That was a quick list I threw together, was meant more as a guide than a set in stone build.

X1950XT-X because i'm an ATi fanboy, also the GX2 has issues with certain boards, and given how flaky the P5B is, it probably wouldn't work.

Seasonic and Enermax are about neck and neck, however i've heard people rave about the quietness of the Seasonics, and that's why I picked that.

The raptor can be made bigger or smaller as required. If money is no object, throw a couple 150GB versions in a RAID 0 config for maximum speed!
 
Is this will be a gaming PC I wouldn't put much considering into quitening the PSU, as other components will make much more noise, video card/raptors...if a PSU makes a low purr a silent PSU Seasonic isn't going to make any difference. And in fact the superior cooling on a "louder" PSU is a bonus as I found the Seasonic incapable of exhausting hot in with a silent case fan arrangement
 
i basically want great performance from a small and quiet machine.

i agree that the psu doesnt make much noise so aslong as i go with a good brand with powerful lines there shouldnt be much difference.
