Spec me the ultimate cookie so I can make it for my partner

I basically can't cook and I've never baked. I want to surprise my partner with...cookies. Then build on that experience and learn to cook well for her.

Has anyone got the ultimate cookie recipe that someone like me can use and not mess up.

Instructions / ingredients would be a great bonus.

Sounds like a good way to start, you can make a roll of dough and bake in a couple of batches if you aren't sure on timings.

No idea on the best recipe as I've only made cookies once, but these were very nice:

Thomas Keller's from Bouchon Bakery are fantastic. Not sure about the rules on reproducing a recipe from a book though..? If it's allowable I'll type it up on here for you.
