Spec me the ultimate crunching machine!

Hi All,

My job involves crunching terabytes of GIS data. At the moment work has given me a C2Quad 9650 for the task, but 4 cores is not nearly enough (though better than my ol'e core duo

). If money was no object, what would my ultimate workstation comprise?

untill the sandy bridge-e version is released, you are still looking @ an SR2 build with dual XEON proccessors

clock each to 4.4GHz.
You will have 12cores and 24threads at your disposal.

A four-way G34 Opteron rig with 12 or 16 core units in each socket. 48-64 hardware threads is nothing to scoff at. You are talking HPC clusters after that, as far as any serious computing goes.
