Hi,

Yes im sorry its one of these threads again on "what card should i get".

Overclockers will be giving me a credit note of £443 as my evga gtx 580 3gb has died again on me!.

I will be selling my other gtx 580 3gb with waterblock and i should be looking at getting £270 for the lot, so i will have a total of £710 to spend on a graphic card/s.

So what card/s should i get, i was thinking about just getting gtx 680 with a waterblock and get some new tubbing/fitting/res/pump for my watercooling kit basically giving my watercooling setup a makeover

Or

Get 2 gtx 670/80 or 2 7950/70 not sure really

I play all type of games at 1920x1080 res but i've got plans to go 5760x1080 soon.

my mobo is not PCI-3 gen so will that matter with the newer cards?.

Thanks

Sgt T

If you are aiming for super high res gaming, then it might be better to consider either the 7900's in xfire or 670 4gb in sli. The 7970 GE will be released quite soon, and this may help pricing a touch on the standard 7970's.

You're always welcome to buy my 6850 for £710 if you want :p
But on a serious note, perhaps 7970 CF or 670 4Gb sli if you are intending on going for high resolutions in the future. The only thing, is that you won't have any money left over for water cooling, so it depends if you think you will miss it or not.

How good are these 7970 in Xfire? I've always been on te green team.

With the waterblocks I can wait for them as I've got good spacing on my mobo.

My only concern is, my mobo is not gen 3 pic-e so dose that matter with these new cards?.

Lack of PCI-e 3.0 shouldn't really impact on performance with 2 way CF/sli, only matters when you are using 3+ cards, when you start eating up more of that bandwidth and running into limitations.
7970's are great overclockers, so if you tinker around with them, they can make for a very powerful setup. 3Gb of Vram should help if using large resolutions. Might want to just get a single 670/7970 and see if you need one later on- I'm sure either will provide ample performance for 1920x1080.

Generally speaking, I'm hearing pretty good things about them, and as you'll probably be aware, they overclock well too.

Your mobo not being gen 3 doesn't matter at all.

love your thinking, looking at them now. Now i've got 30mins free to myslef im going to look at reviews and see what they are like.

My thoughts exactly.

If you're gonna spend £700 why not put just a little bit more and get a GTX 690...

Why not spend even more and get 3 or 4 cards. There is a budget for a reason and tbh, in the long run, probably better off with a couple of overclocked 3Gb cards.
