over budget, but if the gaming component was a significant factor perhaps a more rewarding sysytem with a healthy upgrade path if the machine is going to be around for a bit.

Ps there is no operating system costed in to either of these builds.

i'll just quote that little bit there, and see if anybody can instantly spot a problem with that spec...
winner gets a cookie... or an owl... its their choice :p

it's also worth noting that there wasn't a hard drive to be seen in that spec, or floppy drive (not as important, but they're still used for some things).

if he does want to spend a little more cash, why not get one of the prebuilt systems from OcUK and then just add a few bits and bobs to it.

thought i'd spec something just around £400
yes, its socket 754, but its using a PCIe mobo/graphics card so it does offer a somewhat more easier upgrade path.
again, presuming he's only a casual gamer... this should more than suit him.
a processor that rivals an old 3.0GHz P4, x800 graphics card (seems like only yesterday the x800's was THE range of graphics cards to have... sheesh...) 80gb HDD and a DVD-Rom drive so he can player games that are only released on DVD.

ok, yeah the newcastle is not a 939 socket cpu? I think I read somewhere it was on the wrong page on the shop. Apologies also for the sata drive not included, thought I had.

Bad Spec, I messed up!
