You asked for scotty? I'm here :p

You only need a CPU, mobo, and RAM right? If so...

DFI Infinity 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-020-DF)
£129.95
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 ZX PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBZX) (MY-011-GS)
£149.95
Intel Core 2 DUO E6700 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.67GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-129-IN)
£349.95
Subtotal £629.85
VAT £110.23
Total £740.08

Look good? Damn right it does :D

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN)
£252.57
Intel Extreme D975bx-304 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-010-IN)
£164.44
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) (MY-013-GS)
£173.84

Total inc VAT: £590.85

I don't think the E6700 is worth the massive price increase, but you can easily fit it into your budget.

Intel's website doesn't say that mobo will support a Core2 Duo processor.

It does, people have been breaking World Records with it...

Ok. If you were building a conroe/crossfire system, would you choose this mobo over the Asus P5W DH Deluxe?

I've heard Asus have great build quality so I've been kind of Asus centric in my search for components.

The biggest attraction, in my opinion, that the Asus has over the Bad Axe is that it does not suffer a performance decrease when using the 1333fsb boot strap because of decreased chipset latency.
The DFI is limited to the 1066 strap, meaning a max fsb of around 370mhz.

The Asus is hitting 440-450mhz fsb consistently with better performance than the Bad Axe.

Bah I would like to see those figures :)

Conroe E6600
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400

= win. Though that Asus is bloody pricey at £175!

I would add:

OCZ GameXstream 700w (available online)

Just ordered this myself, and its basically the FSP 700w with a much quieter fan and a few other options. Will last ages and cope easily with R600 and future CPU's. It's had amazing reviews, and is a good investment imo.

I've seen several people on the forum forking out on a £400-£800 CPU and I can't imagine anything more horifically pointless and wasteful personally. Max overclock will be very similar to the E6600 and isn't that what overclocking is all about... getting the most for your money? Not to mention the amount the very expensive CPU's will de-value in a very short period of time. Just can't see the point in them personally, paying that much for a CPU goes against every overclocking principle I hold dear. :)

Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi over the Bad Axe anyday. Asus have been the best boards for Intel rigs since day one.

We only saw a load of records set by the Bad Axe because thats the only board that was availible pre-release.

E6600 (best buy for the price)
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400

Simple enough... its the setup Ive had noted down since Conroe's were on the scene... now just need the money to get it all and start to play...

E6600 is definitely the best value for air or water, e6700 is better for phase however to avoid running out of fsb. :)

Just done some searching ad in germany the Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi costs only £130... a stonking £45 cheaper than here. Why the huge price difference?
