Afternoon all,

A friend has an e6600 based rig and wants to play games.
He has a decent mouse, keyboard and a new 24 inch 1080p screen.

He wants to play games and use the internet.

I am thinking of a sandy bridge i5 rig that could be clocked a bit (he himself is not an OC'er though).
Must have Sata3 and USB3.
Looking for the entire tower.

Looking to spend £700, certainly no more than £800 though.

£676.90 with free delivery

You get free delivery on both these builds if you use your account;)

The top build gives an SLI/Crossfire option with a powerful PSU.

The bottom one is a single card setup only.

Thanks for the help so far.

SLI isn't needed.
I am afraid that I don't know of current decent motherboards - At least with the latest sandy bridge motherboards anyway.
An i5 with a 'k' at the end seems like a good shout for the overclocking.

Are ASrock any good now? In 2006 I had one after the other dead ASrock boards (4 in a row iirc).

Not a fan of the Lancool case - Are there any cheaper alternatives?
I have the Antec 300 but it is an old design (had mine 4 years) and it was £35 when I bought it too, so I am thinking there must be better cases out there now.

The Antec100 is very similar to the 300, I knocked this up for a spec thread a while ago.

Theres also the ZalmanZ9

Or the CM690MKII

First build, definitely. I'm not a fan of the gigabyte motherboard. The asrock on the other hand...

Can swap the case for a Antec 100 or whatever, depending on budget. 6950 should fit the 100 but it's a tight fit.

I would take a Seagate 7200.12 500GB over a F1 750GB, but then depends how much capacity is needed.

750W xfx good for future XFire. Can get an antec 620W now, in the view of selling it later and getting a more powerful PSU when and if you decide on taking another 6950.

I prefer the Gelid Tranquillo for a CPU cooler. Again, probably worth looking at various reviews of the coolers in the £20-£25 bracket.

in pictures...

Was thinking of a 60gd ssd with a 2tb 2nd drive.

Olivier Renault: That motherboard seems expensive! It needs to be overclockable with USB3 and Sata3. SLI/Xfire aren't needed hes not a big enough gaming enthusiast for that.
