Hi there,

I have a AMD dual core opteron 165 @ 2.4 gig on an asus A8N-Sli with 2 gig DDR1 running at 217mhz (433mhz) with a ATI 3870 graphics card & 74 gig raptor on windows XP (32bit)

I use it for casual gaming and its ok.

Since we had our little girl we invested in a HD camcorder a Panasonic SD9 which is great and i am happy with it. However when it comes to editing the footage on the pc and burning footage onto DVD it is very sluggish.

I want to upgrade as cheap as possible and was looking at the following:

AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 620 2.60GHz
Asus M4A785D-M Pro AMD 785G
Corsair XMS2 2GB (1x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5

Would this be enough? I am planning to oc a little. What about an Intel solution? Or a tri core Phenon with the full cache?

I am hoping to keep upgrade of motherboard, cpu and ram to around £200.

I think i will use pinnacle studio HD ultimate 14 my editing.

Would XP 64 bit make a difference? or Windows 7?

Thanks for your help

If you can stretch to 220 you can get double amount of RAM and DDR3

AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 620 2.60GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £79.99 (£69.56)
OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Low-Voltage Dual Channel (OCZ3G1333LV4GK) £69.99 (£60.86)
Asus M4A785TD-M Evo AMD 785G (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £67.99 (£59.12)
Total : £217.97

And yeah Id go for w7 64 bit, if you can get hold of a copy of the RC you can use this for a bit yet
