Looking for a bit of assistance guys, I fell victim to one of the black friday deals for the 295x2 graphics cards, unfortunately the rest of my machine isn't really up to the same standard. It's been a few years since I built the 2500k setup, can somebody point me in the right direction for the current bang/buck CPU/Mobo/Memory please?

My Machines current spec

Intel i5 2500k
Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H (Micro ATX)
Kingston 8GB DDR3 12800
XFX AMD Radeon R295-X2
SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 850W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply
Corsair Obsidian 350D Micro ATX Case
Samsung 840 Evo SSD

Is the CPU overclocked? You should really have no problem running the 295x2 on the 2500k. Are you noticing any bottlenecks at all?

I would also suggest sourcing a 2700k/3770k as the new chips aren't really that much better, looking at the region of sub 15% improvement and will depend on overclock.

The CPU is overclocked, think it's up to 4ghz from memory, haven't touched it since it was installed a few years ago.

Only time I've noticed a problem was last week when I installed GTA, it wasn't quite able to run everything maxed out at a consistant 60 fps (which maybe is an unreasonable expectation, I'm not sure). I had planned on buying a new monitor, either 1440p or 4k in the near future so I just assumed I'd need to upgrade anyway.

Have you got the latest AMD drivers since GTA V release?
The 295 is crossfire, so need to make sure you have the latest crossfire profile.

I doubt the CPU is holding you back.

It ran like a pig when I first installed it, downloaded the latest beta drivers on Wednesday which improved it significantly, however it still isn't flawless. But perhaps this might still be a driver/software issue. In which case spending £500 on hardware may not resolve my problem?

The new CPU's are barely any faster than the 2500k to be honest. No reason why an over clocked 2500k won't run any game you throw at it. It's all about the graphics card these days for games.

Buy something meaningful such as a nice keyboard/mouse/monitor if you dont have nice ones already.

Dont run very high textures on GTA V unless you have 6GB+ of VRAM on each card. It causes swapping of textures between drive/ram/vram. Its a massively jerky experience.

I've been forced to run Normal textures and very high on everything else with a SLI 980 GTX system. Its really smooth with normal textures though... shoulda gone with a Titan X or 2.

Also, I get 70-90fps at 1440p with gsync on. FPS isn't everything with this game, smooth running is....
