I dont need a full new system. PSU is fine, case is fine, OS is fine, HDD is fine, everything.

all i *think* i need is MB, CPU and Ram. I have two 8800gtx's lying around so if SLI is a option it would be good.

I basically wondering if a sub £400 upgrade would increase my speed that much. My Pc is relatively vintage, its a AMD X2 4400 939socket, with DDR1 and its Asus whatever motherboard. So the 3 main components are useless.

Id rather switch to Intel, and id rather have a intel chipset (this rules out SLI though? :() DDR2 or 3 doesn't really matter. So would an upto £400 upgrade performance that much? or should i just keep saving?

Thanks.

what do you use your pc for?

this would be a good general purpose pc that'll perform most tasks pretty quickly and will be handy for the odd game too and most importantly would be a massive speed increase over your current system

the mobo supports sli aswell

what psu do you have btw? you'll probs need a decent 500w psu to run that bundle and 2 8800's in sli and a 600-650w to accommodate any gpu upgrade thereafter

I went from almost the same kit (a X2 [email protected]) to almost the same kit (got the Asus instead of the Gigabyte) and I can vouch for the above spec being solid. I'm not convinced by the fan though - which I also bought - as I feel it could drop the temperature a little lower, esp when overclocking.

The thing is, I don't think I notice the difference between the two machines in day to day use although it's nice to know that all four cores will kick in when I really work it!

EDIT: the fan also came broken since the guard is held on by a super-flimsy piece of plastic, so make sure you inspect your unit when you get it :)

Just random gaming, no super high quality games though (but then maybe thats because i know the pc cant handle it?) and photo/video editing

PSU is is a 620watt enermax which should be fine? Case is too small for SLI at the moment, and the PSU does only have two PCI-E connectors so ill probably need to upgrade both the case and psu for SLI. But for now i just want to get a faster CPU etc.

Thanks for the spec, is i5 worth getting over the fastest 775 cpu's?
