Our Indesit has decided its bearings have had enough after a good decade. Unfortunately it's not old enough that they're serviceable without replacing the drum. So now I need to get my head around 10 years of "progress" and buy a new one.

Unfortunately user reviews don't seem to fare well for most budget to middle-of-the-road models due to the machines trying to think for you and calculating wild wash times. I'm not keen on this at all, but seems like they all do it (presumably some eco reasons) so maybe we need to change with it. We only use 2 settings on the current machine plus the delay timer so not looking for much in innovation, just a reliable washer that won't take 3 hours. Frankly if I could fix it I'd be perfectly happy to use it another 10 years.

Anyway, our current machine is 8 kg 1600 spin, but looks like 9 kg 1400 spin is probably the sweet spot. Current contender is the LG F4V309WSE although similar models with 10x the reviews (FCV309WNE) seem to bring up a fair few complaints like other machines about wash times a bit of cheap quality in areas.

Anyone bought a new machine recently for ~£500 that they can recommend?

LG/Samsung /thread
I wouldn't touch Samsung washing machines with a mile long pole these days, their quality has simply gone down the pan. Their machines just have gimmicky features on to entice people to buy them - longevity and reliability just aren't what they were.

5 year warranty versus 2?

LG comes with 5 years (2 + 3 if you register it) and direct drive is appealing which is warrantied for 10. Seems like that's where my money is going, thanks guys.

From what I've seen on YouTube, you'll probably need that 5 year warranty. :D
Possibly lol!

I have had great experience with LG washers tbf. I bought my mum her first one in 2011/2012 and replaced it when it conked out in 2019. Touch wood that is going strong...

However I went Samsung for exactly that - gimmicks :D

All the washing machine brand websites are listed here if it helps your research, but yeah, I would also say LG is a good shout. I had one, it lasted about 8 years, and it was nice and quiet, plus played a nice tune when it finished. Personally I would think about a larger drum size than 9kg, because it means less wash loads so saves my time.

Similar situation to you only a few weeks ago. We had an 11 year old Samsung. I unfortunately have had poor customer and product experience with Samsung in the last few years (fridge and tumble drier) so won’t be buying them again.

We bought for £429 a

If you want a 10kg version it’s about £500.

The machine is shallower than normal 50cm vs 60cm so it can sit a little further back under the worktop if that matters to you.

Nice big door and drum. Lots of features, quieter when spinning as it’s direct drive as I imagine they all are now.

5 year warranty, extends FOC up to 10 years but that is parts only.

We got this one a while back, quiet washes well and has a quick steam function 9kg 1600 spin takes salt to soften the washing which works well.
It's £1100 or so but if you can stretch it's well worth it.

We had Bosch machine that didn't last more than 2-3 years after having the previous Bosch for about 6-7. Went for a Beko this time, had it 4 years now, its decent, 1400, 10KG and it doesn't have the annoying beep to tell me when the cycle has finished. Only cost 299, half the cost of the previous Bosch.

Got this a couple of months back:
Looks like it's £329 at the moment with £30 cashback from Hisense.

Doesn't have brushes so is a lot quieter than the Beko it replaced. Eco wash times are very long but the quick wash programs are quick and seem to work well. I've had zero complaints from my wife about it as well which is a +ve.

I have one of these as well. Only bought it a month ago so can't speak to its longevity, but I agree with what you've said.

What current machines have minimalistic features, a 1600 RPM spin and will do a 90 degree wash? I don't want fancy LCD displays or anything clever timing or self thinking wise, just a very basic machine that spins fast and washes hot... Thanks.

Get the wife to hand-wash it tbh.
