Doing a fresh install and trying to think of everything i need to copy over to the portable hard-drive.
So far list includes:
Sifting through my documetns folder.
Uni work
"media partition" on the hard-drive.
emails from outlook.
msn smilies and past convos saved - sad I know, but i cant leave without my custom smilies!

Anything obvious Iam missing?

Depeding on whether it was a custom build or not always hand to take a copy of any drivers sitting in the C drive, usually a aptly named folder if from a company like dell.

If you play any long duration games, e.g. non-linear games. Then backup the save games so you don't have to restart again.

The contacts list in Outlook if you have details in there than can't be re-added from existing emails.

Desktop image if you have a custom one and used the right click "use as background" option instead of doing it manually. Same for screensaver.

It's also worth downloading the following instead of getting later.
  • Latest service pack that is classed as I.T. professional so it can installed without needing to go online.
  • Download latest drivers to save going online in a virgin state.

pr0n is covered under "media partition" :P

It's a custom build, but drivers are a good idea, then just download/reinstall programmes as and when I need them.

Virus scanner/adware scanner is the first to go back on.

I have msn+ so that saves into a seperate folder automatically for me.
And smilies I will need to find a link on how to save them, done them once before but since received many more.

is the likes of itunes fine?
Best way to save links for websites just plonk the ones I want into the notepad?

Serch for ConCon, it saves Live Messenger smilies. :)

As for iTunes, if you have bought anything from the store, deauthorise the computer first, just so that you don't waste one of the 5 licenses you own. iTunes library etc. will by default go into your Music folder so depending on where that is you should be fine.

not so much your emails but email CONTACTS, I've just gone "DOH" at having lost all my email addresses.
