Hi Guys,

Im a half noob at photography and was thinking of buying my first DSLR...

Ive narrowed it down to these 3:

a) canon 400D
b) Nikon 40
c) Sony A1000

which one would be bang for buck and would be a great for me to improve my skills on? so that when I am even better, I wouldnt have to purchase a new SLR camera. just would be a case of getting new lenses etc etc

Pls help

Thanks in advance..

Sorry, I'm probably going to sound a bit mean here, but have you read through any of the dozen or so very similar threads we've had this week?

Basically, none of them are bad cameras. Go have a play in a highstreet photography shop and see which one you like the feel of most.

no offense taken....

i just wanted to find out what would be most suitable although I do know what you mean about the feel etc...

any advice would be mostly appreciated

to be honest for me its between the canon 400d and the nikon d40 but Im having trouble deciding on which one...

thanks in advance..

cheers

I ended up with the exact same decision a few months ago. In the end I went wit the D40 purely on how it felt in my hand. The Canon felt too small, with not enough grip. It really is 6 and 2 threes with those cameras, so get yourself down your local camera shop and have a try of them.

I would say that the 400D & especially A100 are better specified cameras than the D40.

As as been said though there really isn't a bad DSLR & a lot of it does come down to what you are comfortable with so go & try them.

i thought the canon 400d would be better as it has 10mp as opposed to 6.1 for the nikon d40??

thats irrespective of the feeling on the hand...

am i right / wrong ???

You are right to a degree, but it is arguable as to wether the extra 4mp is hugely noticable. If your going to be cropping your images quite a bit, then it certainly will come in usefull, but if your not, then the resolution isn't the be all and end all of it. :)
