Currently connecting to BT Broadband with an ADSL modem from the main PC only upstairs (using a Thomson Speedtouch).

Just bought a PS3 so the wife wants to use that to connect with the internet from downstairs. However the cable supplied with the PS3 doesn't fit the back of my (spare) BT Voyager 100 to hook up that way. The instructions with the PS3 aren't particularly clear as to how you set it up.

Looks as if I will need to buy a router and the gizmos which plug in the back of the PC and PS3 respectively, but it will all need to work with the existing BT Broadband connection.

Budget @ £60.

Cheers.

Anyone?

I really am a complete noob at this sort of thing. My networking experience is nil and really need to know what I need and how to set it all up - e.g. does the router connect to the main PC and phone connection upstairs or does it go remotely downstairs by the phone line there.

Please help.

You can use any type of ADSL router with any your BT connection.

I have a Speedtouch 585v6 router which has wireless capabilities and I find this router to be very easy to work with.

Unless you already have wireless builtinto your computer you might be a bit pushed to stay under £60 as a router will be about £40 and then you need to get a wireless card or adapter which is from £15 and I'm not sure how much the PS3 adapter is.

But what you should be able to do is get the router, but use a wire to attach the pc to the router using ethernet cable assuming your pc has a builtin ethernet port which most pc's has these days. That way you would save the £15+ on a wireless adapter for your pc and hopefully you wont over stretch your budget.
