Afternoon!

I'm hoping someone who is in the know with current gear can help spec me up a nice machine.

What I have in mind

6700K
A Z170 board (It must have DisplayPort and an M.2 slot)
16GB RAM
A Fast compatible M.2 PCI-E M.2 SSD (512GB)
A small-ish, sleek professional looking case (not crazy pricey)
A quiet cooling solution for a respectable overclock

I plan on using the onboard GT 530 graphics to output to a 4K monitor at 60Hz over DisplayPort. Hence the need for a DisplayPort, HDMI is limited to 24Hz at this resolution.

I have no idea which board is good or which one has enough bandwidth to power some of these M.2 cards. It would take me hours of reading to catch up on the latest trends and hopefully some of you boys will be able to rattle of a nice system in a couple of minutes.

Cheers!

P.S.

Items not required:
OS
Peripherals
Extra Storage

Nice one! Good to see you're still here Stulid, speccing up rigs.

Is that motherboard not a bit overkill? I'm not sure if I need to spend that to get the M.2 and DP.

Everything else looks good! How's the cooler?

I do need a PSU. I'll probably be looking for a fully modular design to satisfy my obsessive compulsion for neat cables.

Stop and take a step back from that hardware list.

What software are you going to be using? What are the requirements of each software package? Does the software like RAM? Storage speed? Many CPU cores? How about GPU acceleration?

When you say 'small-ish', how small do you mean? NUC? ITX? mATX?

Answer those questions and then we can recommend hardware.

As you wanted a 6700K that bundle saves money compared to buying them separately.

I did look at some of the cheaper boards and they didnt have the DP that I could spot, and just knew this one did and was at this bundle price.

The cooler is fantastic, I have personally tried one and it was easy enough to fit, looks the part etc.

Here is a PSU - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/supe...0-plus-gold-power-supply-black-ca-038-sf.html - Gold rated, fully modular, the connectors that are used (the ones you plug a cable into) glow white and cant be turned off.

No thanks. Stulid nailed it :)

Nice one boss! All looking good to me! Much appreciated once again.

It turns some of the SATA ports off ( to provide the full 32gb/S to the SSD), add another m.2 in RAID and it turns more off to give the full bandwidth.

If you have many HDDs use the m.2 marked that the 2nd one down as I think it is meant to be the first one to use as it doesn't turn off as many SATA ports when used.

I have mine in the top one for looks.

I read that from your linked thread. Good to know! I doubt I'll use RAID and I wont be adding any storage drives to the system.
