I want to upgrade my current setup...

AMD 3000+ SCK939 1.8GHZ CPU - GET RID
GIGABYTE NFORCE 3 250GB MOTHERBOARD - KEEP
1GB RAM (SINGLE CHANNEL MODE) - POSSIBLE KEEP
6800GT 256MB AGP - KEEP
SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY 2 ZS - KEEP
RAPTOR 10K 74GB - KEEP

I have a maximum of £500 to spend....

A mixture of a 19inch TFT and new CPU if possible. My old 21 inch cornerstone p1500 CRT monitor is showing its age. Plus I think my cpu is the limiting factor on my games performance as well..

Does your motheboard support dual core or can it be flashed to support it? If so then you could get an X2 3800 and Arctic Freezer 64 for ~£200 leaving £300 or so to spend on a decent monitor and whatever else you feel like.

WRONG, processor is really suffering because of RAM & any new processor will also! Dual-Channel is one of the key things that make A64's fly!

AMD 3000+ SCK939 1.8GHZ CPU - KEEP & MAYBE OVERCLOCK
GIGABYTE NFORCE 3 250GB MOTHERBOARD - GET RID OFF
1GB RAM (SINGLE CHANNEL MODE) - GET RID OFF V.QUICKLY! REAL BOTTLENECK
6800GT 256MB AGP - KEEP
SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY 2 ZS - KEEP
RAPTOR 10K 74GB - KEEP
Then get:
  • Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) AGP & PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-002-AK) £36.95
  • G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit (F1-3200PHU2-2GBZX) (MY-007-GS) £124.95
  • Subtotal £161.90
  • VAT £28.34
  • Total £190.24
Leaves you £309.76 (more if you sell the left-overs) to spend on a very good TFT (not my area but, maybe you should also post in the Monitors Forum)
