Howdy people :)

I've got an AMD Barton 3200 with 1GB Corsair 3200 ram & Ati Radeon 9800 pro with a 600w powersupply.

Basically, as you can imagine I can't really play the latest titles with reasonable frame rates.

I have £200 and I would like you to spec me a motherboard, processor, ram & graphics card.

I'm trying to achieve smooth frame rates on call of duty 2 and battlefield 2142.

Thanks.

Simply put, not enough money to make a worthwhile upgrade in all areas, you could upgrade in a couple but unless you are buying secondhand I don't see it as being useful to attempt to buy it all new. If you have a bit more £3-400 then it could be done. :)

Actually having a quick think about it I'd suggest an ASRock Dual-VSTA motherboard which will set you back around £40 but OcUK don't sell it currently, it supports DDR + DDR2 so you can use your old Ram and also supports AGP + PCI-E. I'd then get a Core2Duo 4300 which costs around £110. So far total spend is around £150 which should be enough to pick up a secondhand X800series card or 6800series card with maybe even a 7600GT sneaking into the budget, you have the option of PCI-E or AGP due to the motherboard, I suspect you are more likely to find AGP cards from when people upgrade to PCI-E but who knows. Take a look on the Members Market for secondhand graphics cards amongst other places. :)

Are there any boards on ocuk that will do the job? It's just I fancy going up and getting the bits today :p

I remember seeing a processor (intel) back on here a few months ago that could be stupidly overlocked, even on air.

Would that be no good?

Think it was the 920d

Right i've managed to locate another £100 so budget is £300.

So basically I want a motherboard, processor, ram & graphics card that can handle the lastest games.

The more overclocking potential the better :p

It's £70 though

Well if you're after cheap then the FSP sparkle range cost very little and are pretty good PSUs. You get what you pay for though and you shouldn't skimp on the one device which powers your entire system ;)

I may be over-simplifying this, but try removing your 9800 Pro and plonking a 7600 GT in there. Get 2GB of RAM and on 1280 x 1024 you might be ok.
