This is for a friend, he has between 500-700 to spend, Thanks.

Qualities I am interested in:

Windows XP, but I have my own copy of Windows XP pro, so the laptop should just be able to run it. I also have 64bit edition but I doubt I'll need it.

Lots of Ram.

Fast Processor.

A screen that is clear, and readable in many different types of light.

A GREAT battery.

Lightweight and good case design.

A good soundcard.

Things I am not interested in:

Video games.

A ridiculous harddrive: I have an external one

geeky things like fingerprint scanning

Apple

One of the best laptops around at the moment is definatly the Dell XPS M1530, as this has about everything you could ever wish of owning.

Take for example my one cost me £719 with the Dell discounts, and if you go via Quidco, then it will come to under the £700 limit you have:

Intel Penrym T9300
2Gb DDR2 667mhz
15.4" Truelife Screen
250GB Hard drive
Geforce 8600M GT 256mb DDR3

This XPS edition is the only one in the range which has the DDR3 on the graphics card, which will make all the games fly along

Don't think he needs that size HDD or Gfx Card as it was in his not interested list :)

Also 2Gb of RAM isn't "lots", he may as well downgrade those two and get a faster CPU and more RAM.

OP what size screen did your friend want?

You missed the

part.

I'd go for something with a lesser graphics card and go for a soundcard upgrade and/or 9-cell battery (although that might put weight up a bit).

Im guessing a 15.4 screen, seeing as its meant to be fairly lightweight, but he says that battery is an issue.
Thanks for all the replies.
