Same route i went down. Main powerful pc for gaming only and a basic pc for everything else. My gaming pc draws 242w while gaming and my second pc draws 89w idle/ 112w load. :D I built mine for less than £150 by getting most of it off the bay. It's still a decent spec though.

Biostar P35 mobo - Brand new £35.
E4300 cpu - Left over from an old build.
2Gb Patriot Extreme PC2 6400 - £17
Seagate 7200.10 320Gb sata hdd - £26 Brand new.
Samsung 20x Dual Layer DVDRW - £15. Brand new.
AC Freezer 7 Pro - £11 brand new.
XP Pro - £27.50 - Brand new and sealed. :D
Antec NSK 4480 case - Free. Local pc shop had a pile of cases from peoples upgrades that they were going to dump so i asked if i could have one and they said help yourself. :D
Winpower 550w psu - Free, Out of a case that i built a pc for someone. They wanted a better one. Yes it's a Winpower but it's been going strong for over 2 years now. It is getting replaced by a modular one soon though.

Cracking little rig and will even clock to 3.4Ghz if needed. :D

I will do you a spec from here after i have had my dinner but second hand bits would be the way to go.

Back again. This is the best i can do from OCUK although it's way over budget at £252.50.

I went with AMD because the 780G is by a large margin, the best integrated graphics available. It's even good for some light gaming (at low res). You could save a bit by getting a smaller hdd but that Samsung F1 is one of the fastest drives available. I would have gone for a X2 4850e AM2 Dual Core 2.5GHz, 512KB x 2 Cache which is far more energy efficient than the 5200. 45w compared to the 65w of the 5200. You could also save £28 by getting the Gigabyte 780G board in the B-grade section. The only thing with B-grade is that it is pot luck wheter you get just the board in a plain box or the full retail package. You also only get a measly 14 day warranty which is why i would'nt go down this route. The case/psu is a good combo and the psu is very energy efficient and relatively quiet. It is a very good case though.

You could have a look on the bay for a mobo and cpu but be very careful with the mobo. It is a minefield these days with people selling loads of so called "liquidated stock" that are in actual fact customer returns and mostly faulty. If you buy one and it's faulty you will not get your money back. There are still some good bargains to be had though, just be careful. Some things i would'nt buy second hand or B-grade is memory, hard drives and psu's. Too much chance of getting bad ones in my opinion.

Have you worked out how the difference between your electricity bill before and after this new machine is in use? If the difference is a pound a week, it'll take you 4 years to see any benefit from getting a new machine....
