hi all need a rig for playing all the command and conquer, supreme commander and world in conflict games and dvd encoding and a bit of photoshop. already have a 1tb sata drive, dvd writer, 22'' monitor, mouse and keyboard.
budget £400 - 600. with future upgrade path so get 3-5 years use out of it
would getting intergrated graphics be a good idea with direct x11 out towards the end of the year instead of wasting it on a direct x 10 card now?

I wouldnt wait, cos by then there'll be somethign else on the horizon, hows this look for you?

dual core is more suited to gaming mate, with the higher clock speed.

and i would go intel over amd for the fact of a larger "Level" cache on the cpu :)

Core2Duo's are best for the majority of games at the moment, however some titles such as Supreme Commander do take full advantage of a Quad Core CPUs.

so would i be better going for a quad core by Intel or amd? a lot of people seem to be saying good things about the triple core phenom II 720be. isn't socket 775 coming to the end of its life? would the am3 platform be a better bet for future upgrades or would i7 be or would i be better waiting for i5 as ive read theres a lot of new processors coming out in 18 months and i cant afford to be changing every few years

Phenom II 720 BE is a great proccessor, OC's well and should handle supreme commander, and any other games you want to run, fine (with a decent gfx card of course)

what about the phenom IIx4 810 would that be better/quicker? would it overclock more? do phenoms overclock ok. Heard people were frying there chips and gpu's, not heard anything about intels they seem to overclock with less hassle

It's mroe of a fact that Intels are easier to clock. AMD's sometimes take a little more tought, but the 720 especially is gaining some very good figures for clocking.

I'd take the AM3 720 at the moment. One of the better bang for buck and all helps in the fight to bring AMD back :D

hi all thankyou for your time and patience with this, im swaying towards amd would you go with a am2+ motherboard or a am3 one and how would i stand with future upgrades?
