Just wondered what you guys can come up with.

Budget: £1000, would prefer not to go over this unless absolutely necessary.

Requirements:

Full build minus the OS.
22" monitor.
At least 500GB HDD.

Will be used for everything really; not incredible intensive gaming, but a good capability for recent titles would be nice. I am looking for it to last 2 years or so.

Regarding Dual/Quad, I'm not sure, you can decide. And I am willing to overclock.

Thanks in advance!

so you have a monitor or want one.?

I want one, sorry. Should have said :p

Here is a quick attempt, but I think you guys might be able to improve on it. Think I might have gone a bit overboard with CPU/mobo as well.

That looks quite good actually RJC, thanks! I didn't think i7 could really be done on my budget, especially since I want a monitor too.

Arguably, that CPU costs 1/4 of the budget itself though :O

Edit: Thanks for your attempt as well Kennysevenfold, also looking good. I'm a little worried that the 512mb gpu might struggle with a 22" native resolution though?

only has 4ram slots, = FAIL

get a 3 x 2gig set your stumped for upgrading

Yeah, was just looking at it. I haven't heard of Foxconn either previously, but 4 RAM slots limits it a bit.

The 6 slots in the Foxconn mobo as well as the 4 * PCI-E look much better.

I think I would also rather opt for an OEM chip and aftermarket cooler; as that opens up better overclocking potential.

Going to have another fiddle around tomorrow, if anyone else wants a crack at creating a spec, please go ahead and do so :]
