Having now sold my gaming rig I'm now in the market for a laptop and my requirements are as follows;

What is your budget?
£500 max

What size notebook would you prefer?

Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen- Preferred
Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: HP or Dell
b. Dislike: Based soley on rep, Acer

What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Now that my gaming days are behind me I'll mainly be using my choice for browsing the web and converting AVI's, burning with Nero etc.

Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
Portabilty isn't an issue.

Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games or types of games?
No.

How many hours of battery life do you need?
Not so important as it will be hooked upto the mains mostly.

What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
I haven't made the switch to Vista yet so, I'm hesitant.

Screen Specifics

Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Non glossy preferred.

Build Quality and Design.
I'd like the laptop to be reliable and not run too hot.

When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
ASAP and at least 3 years of service

Notebook Components

How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 500GB? Do you want?
120Gb minimum.

Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?
Must have a least a DVD burner. HDMI is a definite requirment as I want to attach the laptop to an LCD Tv

I already own a refurbed HP NC6400, but the hard drive's very small.

Maybe take a look at some of the Dell laptops? My brother has one of those and it does the job for him. Quite well-priced too :)

Forgot to mention that I've been thinking of this as a possibility.
