Hey guys-long time reader first time poster!

The time has come to get back into pc gaming so i
Thought id take the plunge and build a pc but first gonna ask ye experts to spec me;)

Ok here goes, have £1000-£1200 to spend, want a gaming rig for high end stuff, crysis and the upcoming operation flashpoint, all settings maxed out.
I also plan on getting back into 3d modelling so the system needs a beefy cpu and plenty of ram.System to last 18 months to 2 years before next upgrade.

plan on getting a Samsung 24" T240 Rose Red 5ms DVI TFT
and possibly a second in a few months time.
have mouse, keyboard.
Been looking at an i7 build but iv read that its not great for gaming but good for rendering. Rig will be gaming machine first renderer second.
also not sure which os to go with.

Will plough through your games.

As for OS, give Windows 7 a go.

That was quick! CHEERS!!

Will read up on the specs and will post about any possible changes.
doubtfull tho!

thanks again

looking at icey's spec what can i say, thread closed lol, maybe a different case if you don't like the 902 but other than that it's spot on.

monitor included

2x 640gb hard drives for a raid 0 array to boost read write

only thing I'd do is add a second 4890 into this spec and possibly up the motherboard to a ud5

only reason people say i7 is not for gaming is that games are not yet optomized for 8 threads so you can get similar performance for a lowe cost by basing the system around an amd quad core and spending more on gfx cards

OK, long story short i never got round to building this as i needed the money for other things!

So i need a new spec, £1200 and would like to have a ssd in there as well!

Thanks again!!

cause i had a go of operation arrowhead on a friends machine and now im sold!

plus i recently split up with my girlfriend, so iv no excuse now!!!!

i7's are no worse at games than anything else. Its not that they are bad for games, its more like they are overkill for most games.
as the majority of games dont require the processing power that the i7 offers.
there are a few games that do, but not many.

if you wanted to a spec a system for just gaming and u was on a budget, then the i7 is not worth it. But if u have the money, and are gonna use it for more cpu dependant tasks like rendering, then its worth it

You're quoting him from 4th Jun 2009. :D

If you've got the money then might as well go for the i7 option, it'll last you ages. :)
