My mic on my Steelseries Siberia Headset is kinda broke i think and as well as getting a new clip on mic i think i may treat myself to a set of decent cans.

Im running onboard sound on my UD5 but in the future i expect u will get a xonar of some sort. Anyway i have a budget of around £100-120 for a mic and headphones. Im leaning towards a set of HD595's with a clip on mic. This the best combo for that sorta money or is there a better solution? Anyone recommend a decent clip on mic?

Cheers Brad.

I have the HD555 and am really pleased with its output and its paired with a DX, so your intended 595 will be

In terms of mics google for Elara or Konig mics. They can be had for less than a fiver and are the dogs dangly bits.

Goldring DR150 and a Xonar DX or D1. The headphones are marginally better than HD595 (I've tested both) for HD555 (or sometimes cheaper) money.

If you get the DR150s, I would recommend opening them up and removing most of the tape that holds the foam grill guards. It really opens up the headstage. Superb synergy with Dolby Headphone on the Xonar too.

On the Xonar front, don't get a DS, as it lacks Dolby Headphone.

Sorry - I misread the budget. Thought you wanted to get soundcard, headphones and mic for £120.

Still think the DR150s make the HD555 and HD595 look overpriced though.
