The Pentium is much faster - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/119?vs=405

The motherboard has modern stuff like SATA3.0 and USB3.0

Its also more future proof too.

The case is better too.

I'd say Pentium Sandybridge is much better bang for buck than AMD at that price point! Id also put the money youd save by going with a Pentium Sandybridge towards a refurb 460 :)

The rest of your set up looks fine :)

I thought of the Sandybridge option at first, but I was told its cheaper to go for the AMD one, and then the Llano.
Then I was thinking of the new 3850 AMD APUs, would that work out as a stronger pc than the Sandybridge? If so, any motherboard reccommendations?
Will the 6670 make a significant difference over the Llano's integrated graphics?
Does the DDR5 not make a good difference in the graphics department, with regards to replacing the sapphire with the asus?

ok here's the updated spec.
2 things remain.
1, is LG ok for the DVD drive? Samsung has given me nothing but problems over the years.
2, is the 6670 the best card I can get for that money? I don't have the money to stretch to anything much flashier, but I don't want it to be a waste when if for a few quid less or more I could get something better.

Sorry for the late reply.

This compares the llano vs the Pentium - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/399?vs=405

Its a bit give and take to be honest.

The Llano big advantage is the ability to "crossfire" the CPU'S onboard core with a 6670 card - http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/A8-3850_Fusion_GPU_Performance/13.html

Also does a 16mb cache or 32mb cache make a big difference on the HDD?

Not really, but the samsung F3 and seagate barracuda are both faster drives than the WD Blue.

Lastly, is this mobo superior to the MSI for a fiver more?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-448-AS

Yes it is, but you wont be able to overclock the pentium at all, for this you must have a P67 or Z68 board and a i5 2500K or i7 2600K CPU

1, is LG ok for the DVD drive? Samsung has given me nothing but problems over the years.

Pick which ever you want as long as the price is reasonable.

2, is the 6670 the best card I can get for that money?

Theres nothing better without spending closer too £100

So if you wanted llano with a 6670 card which you can combine together for a performance boost in games?

Last question, ddr3 vs ddr5 on the 6670, any difference? The Sapphire says its gddr5 with 512mb, the asus 1024mb with gddr3.

apart from that, spec look ok? all ok to work together and get along happily?

Your right, never saw that.

Get the GDDR5

The rest of the spec is good, and with having a P67 board in place, you are just a CPU change to a i5 2500K or i7 2600K in the future too a really quick PC with overclocking an option.

There may even be a BIOS update to support IvyBridge when its released next year too, chances are very high for this to happen.

Thanks for all your help.
5-6 years since I've put a machine together, out of the loop a little.
Forgot how addictive it is lol.
Good thing I'm on a tight budget!
