Hey guys,

About to start a new job and the guy keeps telling me we'll be using MACs. It's a media related job and it won't be hardcore ivdeo encoding I shouldn't think but there will be stuff of that nature.

Can't really say there is a budget but I'll go for £2k including Monitor and Tower only.

Ok forget that budget but just make tweaks as and when necessary - It's mobos that I'm not sure on but I heard the ASRock ones are good currently so....

Case is personal but I definitely want Full Tower and something that looks reasonably good. I know the 1200 isn't the best air case and it's old but I can't think of anything else I would want other than the Lian Li PC-P80N which is MEGA expensive.

So far I've come up with:

Dell UltraSharp U2711 27" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey
£669.98

Gainward GeForce GTX 580 "GOOD Edition" 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
£359.99

Crucial RealSSD M4 256GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
£283.99

Corsair Professional Series AX1200 High Performance 1200W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply (CMPSU-1200AXUK)
£234.98

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM
£227.99

Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred (V3 with USB3.0) Ultimate Gaming Case - Black
£143.99

Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
£139.92

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium 7.1 Sound Card (70SB088000000)
£78.98

Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD204UI)
£57.98

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)
£57.59

Samsung SH-B123L/BSBP 12x BluRay ROM / 16x DVD±RW Lightscribe SATA-II Optical Drive - Black (OEM)
£49.99

Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM3)
£34.99

Total :
£2,367.02

That would surely destroy MACs at a similar price point?

Im looking at a similar price range (overpowered pc that will last me a while)... specs are similar but by having a browse over the internet i came up with the following:

2 x MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning XE 3GB
1 x Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (retail)
1 x Corsair Professional Series AX1200
1 x Silverstone Fortress 2 FT02B-W (USB 3.0)
1 x OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS 120GB
1 x Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-Bit - OEM
1 x Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit (CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9)
1 x Corsair Hydro H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
1 x LG BH10LS30 10x BluRay-RW / 16 x DVD±RW Drive - Black (Retail)
1 x Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
Total : £1,980ish Delivered.

Im looking into the Asrock Extreme 7 gen 3 (+£70ish) for better cooling of the gfx cards as I hear that in SLi on air these will run hot hot hot.

thats how I would / will spend the 2k ish budget...

:-)

@2560x1440(I also have that monitor :) ) if you plan on playing games you'll need sli/xfire and from what I've read 2gb+ per card and the 1.5gb 580s may struggle at times, how about 2x 6950s? not much more than the gainward and quite a bit faster. I ended up paying extra for the sapphire toxics but you could go for cheaper.

adam the op wants a monitor as well so need to add £600 or so to your total :)

I personally ened up ordering the extreme7

It's not for gaming unfortunately - although it would be awesome to game on a PC with a budget like that.

So I might just stick with the 580 and perhaps add another if ever necessary or if I do get my hands on it for gaming :p

Thanks
