Lol more than that.

For a general use system and MAINLY for gaming the focus should be more on the GPU, rather than going for an X79 processor get an i5 2500K, at the moment it is the sweet spot in terms of performance/price.

Put the savings towards a better GPU. The GTX560 is basically a rebranded GTX460. I'd be looking at 2GB 6950 as a minimum. Also consider that new ATI cards are due mid Jan.

An OcUK 850W PSU is a terrible PSU to chose. It won't provide anywhere near 850W so going SLI in the future would be unlikely without upgrading the power supply first.

Again general use and gaming - no need for 16GB or RAM, 8GB is way more than enough and cheap as peanuts.

No optical drive.

Any new build with a £1000 budget must have an SSD for a boot drive IMO>

black/grey theme, can change graphics card to 6950 if you wished. the 750w version of the psu I've speced would have been sufficent and safed you almost £30 but is out of stock, the one shado boxer has suggested is also good tho the xfx one is silver rated so would save you a bit more on your electricity bill(apperently).

if you're not fussed with the colour matching you could change the mb to the z68xp-ud3 and the ram to the 16gb kingston(16gb is overkill but for £60 worth getting)

well the motherboard for 1 is matx also doesn't support sli so no need for a 850w psu, the silver arrow cooler is best cooler at ~£50 price range, the cpu you've chosen isn't the k version so can't be overclocked. for £30 more you may as well get the gtx580

The silver arrow performs marginaly better yes but it is larger and more unsightly in your system.

As far as the K version processor goes i assume that jeff would be able to make the decision for himself and also i wanted it to be closed to the 1K specified

well choosing a motherboard that can't do sli, 2.5gb gtx570 and expensive then need psu didn't help. if you were aiming for single card then the gigabyte z68xp-ud3(or if you prefer asus the p8z68-v lx) and 650w psu(the antec truepower new modular @£67 is a good choice) would have saved £50-£60 with which could get the i2500k, 8gb ram and even the gtx580 within the £1k budget.

as for the silver arrow being unsightly is your opinion, hundreds/thousands of people use similar size/even bigger coolers in their system and don't find them unsightly ;)

came a bit unstuck on the graphics card as ocuk don't seem to have the his 6950 icq x plus or the his 6970 icq x plus, they have the 6870 version but don't think that's suitable for a £1k gaming system.

ended up with a bit of White/black/blue

the psu is seasonic as oem like with some of the antec, xfx and corsair psus.
 
Fowler, why dont you install crome and that ocuk addon? you dont have to use it all the time but it would improve your presentation and our/my quality of life when posting your (usually pretty good I find) build suggestions.

I did used to have chrome installed, when I installed windows 7 in febuary(have had it since release but never actually got around to installing it :) ) I must have forgotten to install it and never bothered as use firefox.
