Quite a high chance that GFs phone needs replacing.
She has just dropped it into my daughters potty, unable to switch it off, but it is still makin noise (getting notifications etc), but no display
She has a lenovo P2, chosen mostly for the excellent battery.
This is not the first time she has had a phone in water. she also doesn't particularly look after her phones

Spec list:
android
cheap
big battery
waterproof
decent camera
expandable memory

for reference current phone cost us £200 (I think) less than 12 months ago.

Have been searching since I posted this, and I have to say I am finding that to be true :(

Best I have so far is a 2017 Galaxy A5, can be had around £270ish

had the old phone open now and there was one droplet of water around the earpiece, no other signs whatsoever that it had been in water :(
disconnected/reconnected screen and battery and still not working
