spec me a laptop

The main thing is that it can play counter strike (not source that would cost abit too much) well at a good resolution (anything above 800x600 but 1024x768 would be better). If it can do that then should be able to handle anything else i plan throw at it. Cheapest price possible will a good battery life.

From my experience of inbuilt graphics, try and get one with an ATI chipset (so youll have at least the XPress 200 chipset) and try to avoid ones with the Intel accelerators. Whilst neither will be much faster than the other and both will use system memory (albeit dynamically) the ati driver implementations are understandably far superior to the intel efforts.

As an example I used to have an old Intel 885 chipset based laptop that had Xtreme 2 graphics (and used upto 64mb of system ram) it would run half life 2 at 640x480 (bearing in mind the source engine scales superbly) but there were a lot of "glitches" now i have a similar specced tiny HP laptop but it uses a fairly ancient ATI chipset so my inbult graphics are now ATI.

Simialr speed, same memory useage, can still play HL2 at 640x480 BUT none of the glitches because of the better drivers.

Either way i think youll find a modern laptop even with inbuilt graphics will handle CS: Source as long as you dont expect too much!

(it wont handle anything else from the era though as nothing scales like Source)

i saw this for 1,000 is it any good?

i have a laptop with a core duo T2050, 512mb DDR2 and 224mb DVMT intel 945GM intergrated graphics and is plays WOW @1280x800 with everything on low with a decent frame rate of 30-40fps... with 1024mb i reckon it would be a lot better... i would think it would run source at a lower res no probs...

Source is not a graphically intensive game, the main focus being around the CPU. You'll have no problems.
