Hello.

I am fed up with my Corsair GS700 PSU which is very noisy on system start when the fan spools up for a few seconds. Not only that the fan comes on when I'm playing FSX all the time and it sounds like a jet engine (no pun intended).

I'm not necessarily after anything modular as I have a new Corsair 540 Air case which I love. The cable management is so easy I haven't even really got to worry about cable tying in the unseen side.

I guess you'll need my specs to be able to get an idea what I need. I would like something future proof though as I will be going to Haswell soon.

I've seen a lot of people recommend Superflower on here.

i5 3570k OC to 4.4GHZ
Kingston Hyper X 8GB 1600MHZ
MSI GeForce GTX 670 OC Twin Frozr Power Edition 2048MB

Thanks,
Alex.

EDIT: After using a PSU calculator. I need a minimum PSU of 423W. So could I go for a cheaper 550W PSU?

Is it quiet? I will be getting a Geforce 780 when they next go on sale.

Am I right that the EVGA PSUs are essentially SuperFlower but with an extended warranty?

The Superflower is quiet and not all EVGA models are made by Superflower.

The 550w will be fine for the 780 as well.

EVGA Supernova G2 and P2 models are Superflower units and have the 10 year warranty. The new Supernova 1000w G1 is also Superflower but only with a 5 year warranty. All other Supernova psu's are FSP units with 5 Year warranties apart from the 650 G1 and 750 G1 which have 10 year warranties. The FSP units are not quite as strong as the Superflower units on the 12v rail plus are mostly quad 12v rail compared to the Superflowers single rail.

My Corsair AX is completely silent and the TX in my sons system is also silent when not gaming and when the fan does come on under heavy load you can hardly hear it they are both over 20 months old and get used almost every day.

Some people have expressed concerns over some of the corsair PSU's and there are other PSU providers with longer warranty periods but I am more than happy with the ones I have.

They seem silent and that's what I'm really after.
they are supposed to be quiet ive seen quite a few anecdotal reports of them getting hotter than supposed to though.

the TX surprises me, my tx750v2 had a fan that was so loud i ended up modding it with a different fan, the thing sounded like a jet engine, if you want totally silent could consider a fanless psu

put one of those in a pc i built for a friend, 500w is more than enough for your setup with room to spare ive got almost the same setup (i54670k + GTX670)and with prime+furmark running it only pulls 360W at the wall, and my tx is a bronze psu so ~20% less than that for the actual system, with a platinum that would drop another 30W at least

I will be upgrading at some stage though to Haswell and a new graphics card. I like the look of the Superflower Golden Green 550W PSU but it's not modular and the cables aren't black like my existing supply.
