Hi all, ok i am a little out the loop so this is what i need, hopefully someone can help.

Dad wants a nice base unit, decent keyboard and mouse (preferably wireless) and a nice (no cheap ass brands, he's seen my dell 20.1 and loves it) TFT monitor, anything above 19" would be great. Oh and best to allow about £30 for a set of speakers

Now the base unit...

Its going to be used mainly for, browsing internet, watching the occassional video, and watching his stores over some software via the internet to keep an eye on the staff. Also will be used for office, emails etc. But we want it to be nippy in windows and be reasonably future proof (by this i mean i dont expect it to play games uber well but if i put a blu-ray drive in it in the future or install vista etc it sould have no problems with lack of spec).

What would you recommend?

Futher Info...

I think Intel dual core would be best? Cheap and good? I have a Q6600 and im happy with mine.

Do i need a decent £60 PSU and which one, or is the one that comes with the case going to be ok?

Oh, any cheap case will do as long as its not white (ie silver is fine)

And i think 2GB Ram is a good idea?

I dont want him to moan he is runnning out of HD space any time soon but i cant see him needing a lot so i think something like a 500GB would be more than ample?

Needs one DVD Writer, preferably SATA (faster?) and i think pioneers are good?

As for the graphics card, it must be able to play HD stuff fine (as does the cpu to) but i dont think he will be playing games as such so what do you recommend?

Allow £50 for XP home (im selling him mine and getting Vista)

He is looking at £400 but i think its going to be more like £500 plus.

See what you guys can do for him...

Thanks

Thanks for the attempt jak731 but there is no mouse and keyboard, and tft is missing to!

Oh and just to clarify, it only needs a normal dvd writer for now.

whoops, by the title i thought you meant the tower only not the monitor as i though you had picked that already. i'll correct the spec in a few minutes

not sure how good the monitor is ,so think of it as a place holder.

i changed to a barebones system as i dont think he would need the features of the origanal mb i spec'ed also it make a saving to allow for the monitor.

he will have to pick his own mouse and Keyboard as i dont know what feels comfortable for him to use.

although there is onboard graphics, i put the 3450 in to allow you to play HD stuff due to its hd -decoders when you get a bluray drive.

a bit over budget, but includes screen, mouse keyboard and speakers, can save money on speakers if you want to.

ok this may be lil different from what you expected, i have chosen ths mobo because it has on board gfx with built in hd hardware decoders so can play full 1080p with out breaking into a sweat, also because of this you only need a small amount of cpu power. i have chosed something a bit faster mid range though for better overall performace. also its micro based sytem all in black and have picked dell 20inch widescreen tft. anyway check it out. blu ray pioneer drive is another 70 quid if you want it.

lol yucca building to a budgte is hard. but unless he into gaming or heavy vid/pic editing then he dont need majoy spec by a long chalk and you wont notice much difference. you just have to be sure as to what he wants the pc to do. also the monitor takes up a large chunk of cash :(
