My Dad's PC has been having issues for a few weeks, but is now refusing to boot entirely. The motherboard is the primary suspect, but the system was quite old and nearly due for an upgrade anyway so we've decided to replace the whole CPU side of the system. He doesn't game that much and has no interest in overclocking anything, so the non-K CPUs and the motherboard chipsets which do not support overclocking (B/H series?) will be fine. I know that Coffee Lake CPUs, and presumably motherboards, are supposed to be released next week so they may be an option if they can actually be bought next week, but if its just a paper release where no one will really see them for a while then current get will have to do.
If we go with the current gen CPU/motherboard i'm thinking of going for whatever happens to be the cheapest i5 CPU at the time along with whatever set of 8GB RAM is suggested, but I have absolutely no idea about motherboards so any advice there would be great. If Coffee Lake is an option then i'm undecided between i3 and i5, since i3 gets the bump from 2 to 4 cores, but I have no idea what its like performance wise so advice would be gratefully received on that too.
