Spec my Father! Possibly a mini system

Yeah.. I'd love to get him something like that, but honestly he just doesn't need that amount of power (as cool as that would be!).

Taking a peek at those cases :-)

EDIT: oh poo. I just noticed that the thermaltake case has a specialist PSU (220W), is there a hope in hell that's enough for an 2500k running with integrated graphics?

You will easily be able to run a i5 2500K on the 250W.

The CPU at max only uses 95W

Well.. it seems I couldn't find the Zotac Z68 board anywhere for a decent price that actually had them in stock..so... I had to get an Zotac H67 Wifi board from Germany instead. OcUK didn't have either of these boards in stock unfortunately.. and even Zotac are listing them as out of stock :-( On the plus side.. it was a little bit cheaper, and my father won't need overclocking anyway, so not a major issue.

OcUK were also out of stock of the Thermaltake Element Q - d'oh. Sorry chaps wanted to order today as it's his 70th birthday. (If you'd happened to have these two items I would have ordered everything from you)

So spec:

Zotact H67
i5 2500k retail
Crucial ballistix 8GB 1600Mhz (2x 4gb) (Board will only run upto 1333mhz speed though)
Sony DVD rewriter
IDE to Sata converter so he can use an old HDD.
Thermaltake Element Q case (included PSU - should be suffficient).

Read a few reports of the Zotac being defective on arrival or shortly afterward so hopefully that won't happen! But aside from that, I really think this is a pretty good spec, and he'll be pleased as punch with it. The motherboard was I admit pretty pricey... but I'll live with that.

BTW: Forgot to say, thank you to all the contributors :-)

OK... so the case, cpu, memory turned up, but waiting on the motherboard.

Hit a possible snag. There are serious concerns that the stock cooler for the 2500k might not fit.

Who actually has a 1155/6 install in a Thermaltake Element Q case and what cooler are you using please? I was not really looking to add extra expense to this build!

Alternatively.. can something 100% confirm that a stock 2500k cooler will fit in this case please?

So several years later, he wants a new system and wants to ship this system over to me in the USA. Apparently he had issues with not being able to shut it down normally, and had to use some third party tool to do it or something.

Might take him up on the offer since I only have the light bulb power Acer (which is ace, just can't do games).

On another note, I think this case is only 220W, so will likely need to upgrade the PSU if I want to use any decent GPU. (If I can get something as fast as a GTX 480, but power efficient that would be great).
