Spec my mate a laptop :)

Hey, one of my mates is after a laptop that he can use simply for Word, music and videos. His budget is max £400 - anyone able to recommend a laptop for this price range with average spec.

How about a base Dell Vostro 1000? Get it with XP, 1024 MiB RAM, the base HDD, etc. and it will be less than £300 delivered and will be a great machine for those purposes.

My sister-in-law picked one of these up cheap from Dell as a business laptop, went to install a few programs and transfer some data for her. Not a bad lappie, the sempron 3500+ is hardly the speediest processor around but it coped pretty well, I was impressed by the bright clear screen, build quality was pretty good - plastics weren;t too bad. The worst thing was it only came with a DVD-rom drive! Cheap as chips but ideal for surfing, word processing etc.

I had a look at the Dell laptops, thanks for mentioning the Vostro. £336 inc delivery for:

3600 sempron
1GB Ram
80GB HD
15.4inch screen

That Acer is nice if he wants to go to the top of his budget.
