No Monitor, no keyboard, no mouse, No OS (He's got Vista already), no speakers required for starters.

£800 is the absolute limit (EXCLUDING VAT...not in UK)

Primarily to be used for gaming, especially Strategy games.

4GB is a must (Vista x64)
4870 1GB / GTX 260/280 minimum

500GB HD Minimum (1 will suffice, he has an external backup Drive)

Im at a loss nowadays as to which Motherboard / PSU to get, but an integrated sound/network is fine for his needs. Im thinking to go Quad with this once to...

I'll put my list together, but any alternatives would be dead handy, thanks!

Probably what I'd go for with that amount of money. Definitely a modular PSU, makes it so much easier only using the cables you need.

For gaming I prefer a faster dual core, everyone has a preference on this. The E8400 will reach 4.0ghz with the tuniq (I've managed it with my setup).

Definitely go for a P45 motherboard, I've got the one I've shown in one of my PC's, highly recommended. Plus offers crossfire, just incase you want a big of extra fire power in the future.

The case is purely down to you, I really like the 300, offers a great case for a cheap price.

Thats what i'm thinking...he loves supreme commander, and is looking at buying empire total war when it's released, mind you he likes his CODWaW's and Crysis' too....

I've pretty much based my original shopping list around my own PC plus improvements, but there are a couple of suggestions i'm taking on board, such as the modular PSU, an uprated CPU Cooler and hard disk choice. Cheers peeps keep em coming if you can think of anything else :)
